Eye: Jeroen Molenaar
We've opened our eyes
Oil on wood
20x20cm
Story of Jeroen:
Waking up sounds like something active.
At first, you quietly lay asleep perhaps you are dreaming, but now you are awake and can participate in the day again.
Where previously - unconsciously - you saw everything from the darkness of your sleep, now you feel the light on your skin for the first time, and you see everything in a different light.
For me, however, it feels exactly the opposite.
It feels like the more time goes by,
The more I become who I always was.
I don't remember anything else than that I've always felt different.
Like you never quite fit in.
But slowly you learn to adapt
and especially learn how to behave.
Instead of embracing your quirks,
you are denying them.
Slowly getting more and more unhappy.
Not belonging anywhere.
Always wondering and looking.
But as time passes,
The more I get to know who I always was.
With what I already felt as a child
And the questions I asked.
Questions that weren't weird
But to which there were no easy answers.
Rather confrontational,
then conforming
The more time passes,
The more I can be who I always was
Of my own.
And for that
I am grateful
I am still looking for more eyes to paint, so are you interested in participating ππΌ
