Bhoomi devi is an incarnation of goddess laxmi and varaha of Vishnu. Varaha is Vishnu’s third avatar out of 10. The demon Hiranyakashyapa grabbed Mother Earth and submerged her in the ocean to harass the devas. They appealed to Vishnu and he took on the form of a boar (varaha), killed the demon and rescued bhoomi Devi from the ocean. In my art, he is holding the demons beheaded head in his hand. Bhoomi devi is holding the earth in her hand along with various animals/people on her. She is also represented as a cow in many scriptures because the cow is also considered our mother.
