This vintage African tribal mask is a traditional GURO mask made of hard and eroded wood from IVORY COAST. No matter if you are a passionate collector or you love African art and decor, this authentic tribal mask will be a fantastic addition to your collections or to your magical space where the beautiful land of Africa catches life. Guro masks are elegant, usually long with pointed chins, and generally the most colorful of African masks. They are often repainted, so layers of paint are not uncommon. Such masks were danced in various ceremonies. In the southern Mande group of central Ivory Coast, the gouro have been using a group of African masks that have been associated with the zaouli dance since the 1950s. This wonderfully crafted and colored anthropomorphic mask is crowned by two calaos, the face is scarified on the cheeks, the hairline has been finely chiseled. Overall good condition.
