Ganesha has the head of an elephant and body of a human. According to Hindu mythology, he was created by the Hindu goddess Parvati using clay to protect her. The deity Shiva beheaded him when Ganesha came between Shiva and Parvati. Shiva then replaced Ganesha's original head with that of an elephant.
