And only in the last fifteen years have jewelers joined the mainstream of costume jewelry art. The phenomenon of contemporary jewellery is an eclectic group of artists, each with their own unique vision, each with their own personal touch to jewellery production. They are as little connected to the typical mass jewellery manufacturers as, say, champagne makers are to lemonade makers. They deal in works of art, not in pieces of metal. Each of their works is a personal and perfect expression of the “back to earth” movement that is their origin. Many of these jewellers were looking not primarily for a way to exist, but for a way to make life worth living. Running a business while trying not to betray their creativity is a constant choice. Artist-jewelers have managed to resolve this “conflict of interests” in their own way, working in a wide variety of techniques and styles. Their life stimuli, their growth and development, their work are the subject of this publication.
