"Mezim" is a drug containing enzymes and is used to treat various digestive disorders. It contains pancreatic enzymes that help break down food and improve the digestion process. This is what Mezim is usually used for:
Treatment of pancreas insufficiency: The drug is often used to treat pancreas insufficiency, when the pancreas does not produce enough enzymes necessary for normal digestion.
Support for stomach and intestinal diseases: Mezim may be useful for diseases such as chronic pancreatitis, celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome and other conditions associated with digestive disorders.
Help with overeating: The drug can be used to ease digestion when overeating or eating heavy foods.
Indications for useDisorders of the enzymatic (exocrine) function of the pancreas in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract accompanied by digestive disorders.
To improve food digestion in patients with normal gastrointestinal function with dietary errors.
Directions for use and dosesThe dose of Mezim® forte is determined individually depending on the degree of digestive disturbance.
Adults: 1 - 2 tablets orally before meals, without chewing and with water (the effectiveness of Mezim® forte may decrease when chewed and pancreatic enzymes, when released, may irritate the oral mucosa).
If necessary, take another 2-4 tablets with meals.
In cases where higher doses of pancreatin are required, a doctor’s consultation is necessary to prescribe other enzyme preparations with a higher dosage (for example, the drug Mezim® forte 10000 or Mezim® 20000), depending on the symptoms (for example, reducing the severity of steatorrhea, abdominal pain ).
The duration of treatment can vary from several days (in case of indigestion due to an error in diet) to several months and even years (if constant replacement therapy is necessary).
Indications for useReplacement therapy for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in adults and children in the following conditions:chronic pancreatitis;cystic fibrosis;pancreas cancer;conditions after surgical interventions on the pancreas and stomach (complete or partial resection of the organ);after irradiation of the gastrointestinal tract, accompanied by impaired digestion of food, flatulence, diarrhea (as part of combination therapy);narrowing of the pancreatic duct, for example due to a tumor or gallstones;Shwachman-Diamond syndrome;subacute pancreatitis;other diseases accompanied by exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.
