The Holy Mandylion, also known as the Image Not Made by Hands — a sacred and revered depiction of Jesus Christ's face miraculously imprinted on a cloth. The design shows Christ’s serene and solemn visage, surrounded by a cloth with realistic folds and adorned with ornamental borders bearing traditional crosses. The Holy Mandylion is one of the earliest known icons in Christian tradition. According to Orthodox belief, it was created when Jesus pressed a cloth to His face, leaving a miraculous imprint. This image was later sent to King Abgar of Edessa, who was healed upon receiving it. The icon is considered a prototype for all later depictions of Christ’s face and holds a prominent place in Eastern Orthodox iconography. This embroidery design captures the dignity and spiritual power of the original icon.
