A set of 14 vintage postcards depicting architecture, interior decoration, and frescoes of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is one of the largest Christian centers in Ukraine, a landmark of history and architecture. The Caves Monastery was founded in 1051 under the Kyiv prince Yaroslav. Lavra is located in the southeastern part of Kyiv. It has a hilly surface with two plateaus and several terraces. There are many caves under the plateau. In the era of Kievan Rus, the monastery was a Christian center and a significant center of ancient Russian culture. Outstanding writers, artists, doctors, builders, and architects lived and worked there.
It is hard to imagine a person who, admiring the panorama of Kyiv from the Left Bank, would not respect the unique beauty of the snow-white buildings of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra crowned with golden domes. For almost 10 centuries, this exquisite architectural ensemble has been rising on the picturesque slopes of the Dnieper River.
The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra belongs to the state, and religious organizations use the Lavra on a leasehold basis.
