Statue coming a priori from the Karim region and in a style probably influenced by the neighboring Montols. Locked up in a hut belonging to an influential family of the village, these statuettes-effigies which represent ancestor-birds assist the healers and the soothsayers and affect anthropomorphic silhouettes stylized to the extreme. The statuette on sale is quite representative of this very particular stylistic purification. Rare are indeed the modern, contemporary pieces, which are not intended for the tourist market but which are thought and created for rites and uses which are often still very much alive. Acquired from a French collector, who acquired the statue between 1945 and 1960 in Nigeria. African sculpture that will enrich your African collections.
